KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Benteng cluster recorded a whopping 167 new Covid-19 cases in Tawau including 91 foreigners, the Ministry of Health said.

Of the 167, 76 cases involved Malaysians comprising 70 inmates and six members of the public who were close contacts.

The remaining 91 cases were foreigners from the Philippines (61) and Indonesia (30) in the cluster spread over Tawau and Lahad Datu.

Of the 167 new cases, 161 were second generation and six cases third-generation infections.

Tawau now has a total of 250 positive cases and 1,192 pending test results while Lahad Datu has 87 cases and 392 people awaiting their test results.
