KOTA KINABALU: A total of 17 Conditional Movement Control (CMCO) offenders were compounded after failing to observe social distancing according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) recently.
The two-day surveillance operation from Saturday was carried out in several locations, including Manggatal, Inanam, Imago and Api Api Centre.
City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said five individuals were arrested at a restaurant in Manggatal on the first day of the operation.
“Another five were arrested on the same day after they were seen hanging out on the street near Imago.
“The operation the next day resulted in the arrest of five more people at a restaurant in Manggatal for violating the SOP.
“Two individuals were arrested on the same day, one in Inanam for operating cyber cafe without permission and another in Api Api Centre for operating a kiosk after 10pm,” he said, Tuesday.
Habibi said those arrested included 11 men and six women aged between 21 and 60.
He said all were detained under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 6) Regulations 2020.
“They can also be punished under Rule 15 of the same Act,” he said, adding that compounds were also issued to the premises owners.
