Of the 40 new cases, 31 are non-Malaysians, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at the Health Ministry's daily Covid-19 media briefing Thursday (May 14).

Dr Noor Hisham also said 70 more patients have been discharged in the same 24-hour span, which means 5,351 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.

Malaysia's Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 78.47% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are only 1,356 active cases being treated at the country's health facilities at present.

There are currently 16 patients being treated at intensive care units (ICU) with four on ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced one new death, taking the country's death toll to 112.

On the latest death, Dr Noor Hisham said the deceased is a 39-year-old man with a history of valvular heart disease and was also involved in an accident earlier this year, where he broke both his legs.

He was pronounced dead at the emergency ward of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan in Pahang at 9.52pm on May 12.
