KOTA KINABALU: A foreigner with Permanent Residence status and a local became the first two people to be charged in the State for defying the Movement Control Order (MCO) by obstructing police personnel enforcing it recently.

MyPR holder Injimar Abu Gafar, 33, and Yong Tze Hou, 26, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie on Thursday after the charges were read out to them respectively.

Injimar was fined RM6,000 or 10 months jail for committing the offence at 6pm on March 23.

Yong was sentenced to 10 months' jail for the offence committed at 1.30am on March 25.

The offence under Section 186 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.
