UPDATES ON THE CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19)
SITUATION IN MALAYSIA

 

Current Status of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Who Have Recovered

23 March 2020 – The Ministry of Health (MOH) would like to inform that 20 cases have fully recovered and discharged well today. Cumulatively, 159 confirmed COVID-19 cases have fully recovered and discharged well.

Current Situation of COVID-19 in Malaysia

23 March 2020, 12 pm – A total of 212 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) MOH today. Cumulatively there are now 1,518 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Malaysia. Based on preliminary investigation, of these 212 additional confirmed cases, 123 cases are related to the Tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling mosque.

Currently, 57 confirmed COVID-19 cases are receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICU), and of these, 27 cases are on ventilation support.

Regretfully, four (4) additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to the National CPRC MOH. Cumulatively, there are now 14 COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia:

  1. Death #11: Case 1,070 is a 70 year-old Malaysian man. He has a history of travelling overseas and was treated in the ICU of Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital. He was pronounced dead on 22 March 2020.
  2. Death #12: Case 1,114 is a 70 year-old Malaysian man, who was a Tabligh member and attended the Tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling mosque. He was treated at Kluang Hospital. He was pronounced dead on 23 March 2020.
  3. Death #13: Case 1,006 is a 49 year-old Malaysian man, who is the son of Case 1,031. He was admitted into Sarawak General Hospital. He was pronounced dead on 23 March 2020.
  4. Deaths #14: Case 595 is a 51 year-old Malaysian woman. She was a close contact to a confirmed COVID-19 case related to the Tabligh gathering cluster. She was admitted into Miri Hospital. She was pronounced dead on 23 March 2020.

Supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Healthcare Workers

MOH is aware that the issue of PPE shortage is now a global issue. MOH has always prioritised the safety of healthcare workers (HCWs). Accordingly, MOH has taken various steps to ensure adequate PPE supply to all healthcare facilities through coordination of supply with all State Health Departments.

To date, MOH has secured the supply of 33 million units of PPE that will adequate for the use of all healthcare facilities and will be distributed within the week. In addition, the Government has also received contribution of PPE units from various parties, and a total of 3 million PPE units are being distributed to healthcare facilities based on current needs. The MOH would like to express gratitude for all of these contributions.

Health Advisory on COVID-19

MOH advises the public to remain at home for the duration of enforcement of the Movement Control Order. The public must continue to practice a healthy lifestyle and always maintain good personal hygiene. The public is also encouraged to clean the areas in and around their homes and premises, including disinfection.
