BEAUFORT: The people have been reminded to not spread fake news on the Covid-19 pandemic which may lead to panic and anxiety.

Making the call, Beaufort Hospital Director Dr Sutarshan Kannan stressed that, so far, there is only one Covid-19 positive case, here, and the patient is being quarantined in Kota Kinabalu.

“We understand the feelings of the people…as such, we must always take good care of our self hygiene so that we will not be easily exposed to the virus,” he said.

“What is more important is the people must enhance self hygiene and wash their hands regularly aside from refraining from going to places with many people coming together, as well as practising the right etiquette of coughing and sneezing.

“To those who had been ordered to self-quarantine, they need to stay at home.”

He also urged those who have the symptoms to go to the hospital or contact the hospital’s hotline 087-212333 extension 493.

“Medical officers can come to check and screen them,” he said.

Blood donation, he said, is still continued to ensure the hospital’s blood bank is sufficient in supply.

“Those with high risk of getting chronic diseases are not allowed to visit the hospital except for emergency reasons.

“And those who had histories of visiting countries affected by Covid-19 are advised to contact the hospital for consultation first.

“The same applies to those who are close contacts to Covid-19 cases and those who have the symptoms must wear face masks when they visit the hospital.”

These instructions must be obeyed so that everyone could be protected, he said.
